Privacy Policy

Scope. This Privacy Policy explains how Seattle Rent A Boat ("Seattle Rent A Boat," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, protects, and retains information when you use seattlerentaboat.com, request or complete a rental, sign rental documents, communicate with us, or interact with our rental operations.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect the following categories of information:

2. How We Use Information

We use information to operate the business and website; evaluate and approve or decline rental requests; confirm identity, qualifications, and availability; calculate pricing and tax; process rental payments, refunds, security authorizations, and documented post-rental charges; prepare and administer agreements; communicate booking and trip information; coordinate dock release and return; protect vessels, guests, staff, and property; maintain calendars; prevent fraud, abuse, double booking, or unauthorized access; resolve disputes and chargebacks; comply with law, insurance, accounting, tax, safety, and recordkeeping obligations; improve our services; and enforce our agreements.

3. Payment Processing and Stripe

Payments are processed through Stripe. When you submit a rental request, Stripe may collect and tokenize your payment method so it can be used if Brian approves the rental and for authorized rental-related transactions. Stripe processes card and billing data under its own privacy and security practices. Our application receives transaction and payment-method identifiers and status information needed to administer the booking, but does not intentionally store your complete card number or card verification code.

4. $1,000 Security Authorization and Post-Rental Adjustments

Every rental requires a separate $1,000 card authorization before vessel release. We use booking and payment information to place, monitor, release, or settle that authorization. Where authorized by the rental agreement and applicable law, post-rental adjustments may include agreed captain-related charges collected by Seattle Rent A Boat, fuel, rental extensions, late return, cleaning beyond ordinary use, missing items, or damage to the vessel or Seattle Rent A Boat add-ons, equipment, or other property. We retain an itemized record of security-authorization activity and supporting documentation as reasonably necessary for accounting, dispute handling, insurance, claims, and legal compliance.

5. Service Providers and Disclosures

We may disclose information to service providers that perform business functions for us, subject to their applicable contractual and privacy obligations. These providers may include:

We do not sell customer personal information for money. We do not disclose customer information to third-party advertisers for cross-context behavioral advertising through the booking system as presently operated.

6. Legal and Safety Disclosures

We may preserve or disclose information when we reasonably believe doing so is necessary to comply with law, regulation, subpoena, court order, tax or safety obligations; protect rights, safety, vessels, equipment, guests, staff, or the public; investigate fraud, theft, misuse, accidents, damage, or unauthorized operation; establish, exercise, or defend legal or insurance claims; or complete a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.

7. Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy. Rental, contract, payment, tax, audit, safety, condition, and claims records may generally be retained for up to seven years after the associated transaction or longer when reasonably necessary because of an open claim, dispute, chargeback, litigation hold, insurance requirement, tax requirement, safety investigation, or other legal obligation. Short-lived security and rate-limit records may be retained for substantially shorter periods. We may retain de-identified or aggregated information where it no longer reasonably identifies an individual.

8. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed for the nature of the information we handle, including access controls, secure administrative sessions, payment-tokenization through Stripe, server-side pricing and booking controls, audit logging, transport security, and restricted administrative functions. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Customers should not send full payment-card numbers, passwords, government identification numbers, or other unnecessary sensitive information through ordinary email or text.

9. Electronic Communications

Transactional booking, payment, agreement, security-hold, and trip communications are sent by email. The public business number, (206)-552-0868, may be used for manual calls and text messages with Brian or other authorized Seattle Rent A Boat personnel. We do not represent that the website automatically sends SMS messages. You are responsible for keeping your email address and telephone number current.

10. Children and Minors

The website and contracting process are intended for adults who can lawfully enter a rental agreement. We may receive limited information concerning minors who will participate in a rental when provided by a parent, guardian, or adult renter for safety, equipment, supervision, or agreement purposes. We do not knowingly invite minors to independently submit payment or contracting information through the website.

11. Your Choices and Requests

You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information that we control. We will evaluate requests in light of applicable law, identity verification, and legitimate retention needs. We may retain information that is necessary to complete a transaction, maintain required business records, protect safety, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, establish or defend legal claims, or comply with law. You may unsubscribe from non-transactional marketing email using the method provided in that message; essential rental and transaction communications may still be sent.

12. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The site may use technically necessary browser storage, cookies, or similar mechanisms to operate security, sessions, preferences, and booking functionality. Third-party content embedded in or linked from the site may apply its own technologies under the third party's policies. We do not promise that browser “Do Not Track” signals will alter site behavior unless required by applicable law.

13. Data Incidents

If we discover a security incident involving personal information, we will investigate, contain, remediate, document, and provide notices to affected persons or authorities when and as required by applicable law. We may use available contact information to provide such notices.

14. Third-Party Websites

The site may link to or interoperate with third-party services. We are not responsible for the privacy, security, content, or availability of a third party's independent service. Review the third party's terms and privacy notices before providing information directly to it.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy as our services, vendors, operations, or legal obligations change. The effective date and version at the top identify the current Policy. Material changes apply prospectively unless law permits or requires otherwise. The version accepted or in effect for a transaction may be preserved with the related booking record.
